Speech therapy at home

Speech therapy at home

If you have difficulty with your speech, there can be no substitute for proper diagnosis and treatment from a qualified speech and language therapist. However, if you are unable to seek professional advice or just want to practise your speech at home, speech therapy software could help you.

How does speech therapy software work?

During speech and language therapy you often rely on auditory feedback to modify your speech. By using speech therapy software, you also have the advantage of visual feedback. With simple to use biofeedback displays you can view your speech in real-time, make adjustments and instantly see the effect on pitch, voicing, timing and loudness. You can also make recordings and compare your speech with examples.

What do I need to get started?

Computer

Computer

A desktop or laptop computer. Our software works with Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Microphone

Microphone

Most laptop computers have a built-in microphone. However, we recommend using a USB microphone for best results.

Webcam

Webcam (optional)

Traditionally, mirrors have been used in speech therapy to view lips, teeth, jaw, tongue and facial muscles during speech. Visual feedback, using a webcam, takes this a step further. With a webcam you can:

  • Pause your image for closer inspection.
  • Record your image.
  • Practise your speech whilst watching example recordings.
Clock

Time

We recommend you set aside at least 10-15 minutes each day to practise your speech.
